Web Special

The Canon EOS 50D Enthusiast Kit and 17-85mm IS lens features a 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 1V Image Processor which combine to deliver superb image quality with low noise and natural colour reproduction. The new camera offers high-speed, low light shooting is enabled by ISO levels of 3200.

The Canon EOS 50D camera has other big change it is the inclusion of a new, high-resolution LCD screen. 920,000 dots mean that it can convey 640 x 480 RGB pixels, making it effectively a VGA standard monitor and three anti-reflection layers built into the screen do their best to keep it useable in bright conditions, too.

The Canon 50D camera's Quick Mode AF setting flips the mirror down and carries out regular phase-detection autofocus, while the Live Mode AF and Face Detection Live Mode AF use the 50D camera's CMOS image sensor for contrast detection autofocus. Two detailed grid displays have also been added to Live View shooting as optional settings for easier composition.

The EOS 50D developed 15 megapixel sensor that finally rectifies the situation in which Canon's XXD range trailed the company's entry-level line, in pixel terms. Canon is claiming that the new sensor's design (new manufacturing processes, redesigned photo diodes and micro lenses) mean that despite the higher resolution image noise has improved. With a powerful new 15.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor and a 6.3 fps shooting, the latest DIGIC 4 image processor, and delivers unparalleled speed and resolution at a price point that is unique in today’s market.

There are various other changes and added features, with many of them stemming from the first appearance of the Canon's DIGIC 4 processor. The DIGIC 4 processor is fast enough to allow up to 6.3fps continuous shooting, in bursts of up to 90 JPEGs with a UDMA card. When using the Canon EOS 50D with Canon’s wide area AF system, which locks onto subjects with 9 individual cross type sensors, stunning action sequences can be captured - even in low-light conditions. Live View mode integrated in the EOS 50D.

Picture Style pre-sets simplify in-camera control over image qualities. Picture Style pre-sets can be likened to different film types - each one offering a different colour response. Within each selectable pre-set, photographers have control over sharpness, contrast, colour tone and saturation.

The Canon EOS 50D includes latest version of EOS Utility provides essential support for Live View remote shooting, 50D camera configuration and image transfers. Tightly integrated with Digital Photo Professional, EOS Utility can be configured to monitor ‘hot’ folders, automatically renaming and moving incoming images to a structured file system. Users can also tag their images with EXIF data, including copyright information.

The Canon EOS 50D features a new 3.0” Clear View VGA LCD, providing extra-large and wide angle-of-view image review, with plenty of clarity for accurate focus checks in playback. By switching to Live View mode - which displays a real-time image on the LCD - photographers can enjoy simplified shooting from awkward angles, or connect to a PC for remote shooting. Live Mode on the Canon 50D now offers three ways to auto focus: Quick AF, Live AF, and new Face Detection Live AF, which optimizes focus based on faces detected in the frame - for fast, spontaneous portraiture.

These changes ensure improved high ISO performance and low noise. The Canon EOS 50D offers high-speed, low light shooting is enabled by ISO levels of 3200, expandable to an ultra-sensitive 12800. The Cleaning System which has been integrated in the EOS 50D - including the improved Self Cleaning Sensor Unit with a new fluorine coating - increases protection of image quality by helping to reduce, repel and remove unwanted dust from the sensor.

The Canon EOS 50D is with 6.3fps continuous shooting, just perfect for sports and wildlife photography. The DIGIC 4 processor is fast enough to allow up to 6.3fps continuous shooting, in bursts of up to 90 JPEGs with a UDMA card. When using the EOS 50D with Canon’s wide area AF system, which locks onto subjects with 9 individual cross type sensors this makes the Canon EOS 50D particularly suited to sports and wildlife shooting.
